How could we use an illegal substance to help people get off of a legal substance?Marijuana IS safer than alcohol, but it is illegal. How could we make this work in America?
No. Adding yet another drug to society at large isn't helpful at all. As for mj having no effects: research memory loss, cardiovascular issues, respiratory problems, mental illness, ability to learn, immunosuppressant (an immune system impairment), ETC.
And although I know you're not going to believe anything that's contradictory to what you want, there is long term issues. Marijuana isn't a magic ';plant from the earth'; that has a 100% good side and 0% bad.
Ask yourself at the end of the day about those friends you know who smoked too much and are burned out. Can you really say there are no long term effects? An honest person says no.

They have known for years marijuana is safer then alcohol. But with all the campaign dollars coming from the big alcohol company's. It wont change.
If we got people using one drug to get off of another, then wouldn't they just get addicted to the counter drug?
You're right, Marijuana has no bad effects to your health except some minor coughing. The only problem I have with marijuana is that the majority of people that smoke it try to get away from their problems, this isn't a solution to their problems because most of them wake up from the daze feeling worse off then they did before. If smoking weed is the highest point in your day then you got issues.
That may be so, but you still don't have an argument.
No it is NOT safer. It can quickly lead to psychosis and tends to lead to harder drugs.
Interesting that the person above me says that you will never believe what is contrary to your opinion, when it looks like he is saying the exact same thing about himself, as he posts biased links with very biased information.. Like the first one I clicked on claiming marijuana has no medical use because smoke is bad. News flash buddy.. first, most patients are vaporizing or cooking in food. But second, studies to date are showing absolutely no correlation to smoking related diseases with marijuana smoke.
What you miss is that legalizing marijuana ISNT putting another drug into the mix. Its ALREADY THERE. Legalizing it will at least help regulate it and keep it out of the hands of children.
Do you know 3 times as many teens report they have access to marijuana than the number of teens that report they have access to alcohol????
I am not saying marijuana is 100% safe, nothing is. You can even kill yourself if you drink too much water. But I AM saying that its safer than alcohol, safer than tobacco, safer than caffeine, safer than all the hormones used in our food supply. I AM saying its safer than morphine and oxycodone and xanax and ssri's and a lot of other medication used in the same situations.
Your first link mentions that marijuana smoke can possibly cause some of the same issues that its being used to treat. So can chemo, so can tylonal, so can virtually every med thats out there. Do you know I am actually at higher risk for brain tumors, leukemias, lymphomas, myleomas, and several other cancers after my treatment for leukemia? But no one is banning chemo, are they?????
This can be done in medical marijuana states.
Also, marinol may??? be effective in the same situation (marinol is synthetic thc, available by rx at any pharmacy nation wide including walmart, backed by the fda and ama.... but at something like 1000 times the price of marijuana. Now we wonder why real marijuana remains illegal......) But, where its synthetic, and its only thc rather than the other chemicals in marijuana that work together, it may or may not. Not to mention, it would drive the cost of treatment up dramatically.
@7thlegion read up on marijuana. you are obviously misinformed. marijuana is safer than alcohol and there is no proof of a gateway theory. according to the government approximately 1 in 100 marijuana users in the u.s. go on to use harder drugs. get ya facts straight.
